FUDAN UNIVERSITY / PHARMACEUTICS
Drug delivery across biological barriers
The Teng Shen Lab studies dissolving microneedles, transdermal and topical formulations, and oral absorption. We connect formulation design with delivery testing and pharmacokinetics to understand where a drug goes.

Research
Three research platforms
We organize formulation and evaluation around the route of administration, from entry into skin to absorption after oral dosing.
Skin delivery
Dissolving microneedles & payload delivery
Freeze-drying and needle design for delivery of biologics and poorly soluble compounds into or across the skin.
Topical formulations
Transdermal patches & topical evaluation
Reservoir patches and hydrogel cataplasms evaluated through in vitro permeation and skin retention.
Oral formulations
Oral absorption & intestinal lymphatic transport
Lipid formulations, transport models, and bioanalysis for oral exposure and sustained-release design.
Publications
Selected studies
Research spanning microneedle fabrication and payload stability, through human pharmacokinetics of a reservoir patch.
Journal of Controlled Release
A dissolving microneedle patch for mRNA vaccination
Drug Delivery and Translational Research
Freeze-drying for dissolving microneedle fabrication
Biological and Pharmaceutical Bulletin
Human pharmacokinetics of a tetramethylpyrazine patch
